The greyish colour of saindhava lavan, a classic rock salt, comes from the high proportion of minerals and trace elements. This rock salt is mined mechanically, not using explosives, in the Pakastanian foothills of the Himalayas. No chemicals or high temperature processes are used in its produrction. It contains no chemical anticacking or running agents, such as ferrocyanides or compounds of aluminium.

Rock salt is more valuable than common salt which loses most of its elements during refining and is more than 97. 5% sodium and chloride.
